During another attempt to impeach US President Donald Trump, some Democrats voted alongside Republicans, reports Axios.
Nearly two dozen Democrats in the House of Representatives voted alongside Republicans to block the initiative of one of the party members.
The vote angered Democrats, many of whom increasingly despise the use of impeachment as a political tool but do not want to be seen as supporting Trump's actions and risk angering their party base.
The vote was forced by Representative Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, who said in a speech in the House of Representatives that Trump was abusing presidential power.
Green pointed out that Trump said last month that a video in which Democrats in the House of Representatives called on military personnel not to carry out illegal orders was seditious behavior punishable by death.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, a Republican from Louisiana, then moved to “defer,” or essentially reject, Green's impeachment proposal.
The House voted 237-140 in favor of Scalise's motion, with 23 Democrats joining 214 Republicans in supporting it.
However, this vote is a significant shift from June, when 128 Democrats voted to postpone another Green impeachment proposal, and only 79 supported it.
In the last week and a half alone, Democrats have introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Another Democrat is insisting that the House Judiciary Committee begin impeachment proceedings against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Attempts to impeach Trump
In April, Democratic Congressman Shri Thanedar submitted an initiative to Congress to remove Trump from office. At the same time, another Democratic congressman, Al Green, announced plans to introduce his own bill to impeach the US president.
However, in May, the House of Representatives said it would not vote to impeach the president, thwarting the plans of the American leader's opponents. Nevertheless, Trump's entourage acknowledges that if the Democrats win the 2026 midterm elections to Congress, impeachment could take place.
