US House weighs Trump impeachment over Iran

The US House of Representatives has rejected a proposal to impeach President Donald Trump over airstrikes on Iran without congressional approval, according to The Hill.
The initiative to impeach Trump was put forward by Democratic lawmaker from Texas, Al Green.
The House of Representatives rejected the proposal by a majority vote. 344 congressmen voted against the initiative, among them 128 Democrats and all Republicans. The proposal was supported by 79 Democrats.
According to the publication, Green had been trying for several months to initiate an impeachment vote, criticizing Trump's approach to addressing both foreign and domestic policy issues.
On Tuesday, he introduced a new proposal, accusing the US president of failing to seek congressional approval for strikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran.
Green, in particular, accused the American leader of violating the oath "faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States", as well as "abused the powers of the presidency."
In response, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson and other leading Republicans expressed support for Trump, noting that he had full authority as commander-in-chief to carry out the strike.
"The strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities were clearly within President Trump’s Article II powers as Commander in Chief. It shouldn’t even be in dispute," Johnson responded.
Attempts to impeach Trump
This is not the first time a proposal to impeach US President Donald Trump has been submitted to Congress.
In April, Congressman Shri Thanedar submitted such an initiative to Congress. In response, Trump called his critics "losers" and "lunatics." He also called the idea of impeachment nonsense.
In early April, Democratic Congressman Al Green announced plans to submit his impeachment project, stating that Trump, in his view, is unworthy of holding the office of US president.
In mid-May, Democrat Shri Thanedar postponed the vote on impeachment. This decision was made due to pressure from colleagues.
