Trump hopes for 30 days of silence between Ukraine and Russia - White House

US President Donald Trump hopes that Russia and Ukraine will agree to a 30-day ceasefire, states White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a press briefing for reporters.
According to her, yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called Trump. They discussed the agreement between Ukraine and the US regarding rare earth minerals.
Trump told Leavitt that his conversation with Zelenskyy was good.
"They also spoke about the ceasefire that the president proposed. The 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, which, we know, Europe is on board with. And we hope both countries will agree to," Leavitt said.
Ceasefire
Back in early March, Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire with Russia for at least 30 days. However, at that time, Russian President Vladimir Putin came up with a series of demands for such a truce.
Moreover, he began manipulating "short ceasefires" — first for Easter, and then for Victory Day. Despite these statements, yesterday, the Russian army launched a missile strike on the Poltava region.
Trump himself expressed hope yesterday that Russia would eventually agree to this idea. He promised that the US would impose new sanctions on any country that violates the ceasefire.
Today, Reuters reported that the US and Europe are finalizing a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. If Moscow does not support it, sanctions will follow. The new German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, believes that an agreement on a ceasefire in Ukraine is possible in the next two days.
