Trump calls for 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, warning of 'responsibility'

US President Donald Trump reiterated his call for a comprehensive ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia for a one-month period. He also commented on the consequences for those who violate such a ceasefire, according to Trump’s post on the social media platform Truth Social.
As noted by the American leader, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, mediated by Washington, are ongoing.
"The U.S. calls for, ideally, a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. Hopefully, an acceptable ceasefire will be observed, and both Countries will be held accountable for respecting the sanctity of these direct negotiations," Trump stated in his post on the social media platform.
According to Trump, if the ceasefire is not upheld, the US and its partner countries will impose new sanctions.
The American president once again addressed the loss of thousands of young soldiers every week and emphasized his desire for this to stop.
"As President, I will stay committed to securing Peace between Russia and Ukraine, together with the Europeans, and a Lasting Peace it will be!" Trump stresses.
Additionally, the US president is confident that such a ceasefire will ultimately lead to a peace agreement.
"It can all be done very quickly, and I will be available on a moment’s notice if my services are needed," Trump added.
Issue regarding the 30-day ceasefire
Despite Ukraine's immediate agreement to the US proposal for a complete ceasefire in the war with Russia, Moscow effectively rejected this idea, declaring verbally its readiness for such a ceasefire but attaching various conditions.
Moreover, the Kremlin unilaterally initiates short-term ceasefires, which it does not abide by itself. These include the so-called Easter and Parade Ceasefires (April 20 and May 8-11, respectively).
It should be noted that in response to Putin's idea of a three-day ceasefire, the White House reminded that US President Donald Trump has stated that he demands a complete ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
Recently, US Vice President JD Vance stated that Washington now wants to move beyond the 30-day ceasefire and discuss a long-term settlement.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Kyiv is ready to support a ceasefire if the terrorist state of Russia reciprocates. Moreover, the Ukrainian president emphasized that Russia may agree to a 30-day ceasefire, but for this, pressure from the US is necessary.
By the way, earlier, US President Trump mentioned that if Russia does not change its behavior and the Kremlin does not move towards peace in Ukraine, he may sign the bill proposed by Senator Lindsey Graham for new sanctions against Russia.
Additionally, on the evening of May 8, during a phone call with Trump, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready for a 30-day ceasefire starting today. The president noted that both sides are awaiting Russia's agreement to such a proposal.
