US President Donald Trump says he is prepared to send an American delegation to Moscow for talks regarding the war in Ukraine.
During a press conference, the US President was asked whether he was prepared to send negotiators to Russia to discuss a possible resolution to the war.
In response, Trump stated that he does not rule out such a scenario.
"I would do it if I thought it would help. I'd do it. I'd love to see that war end," he emphasizes.
The US President does not provide any further details regarding the possible format of the negotiations or the potential composition of the delegation.
Trump also draws attention to the number of casualties on both sides of the war.
"I'd like to see it stop. Uh, Russia, Ukraine. It's the worst thing since World War II in terms of life. 25,000 young soldiers every month. It's crazy. So, it could very well be," he emphasizes.
Ukraine-Russia ceasefire
This week, Russia announced a ceasefire for May 8 and 9, but Ukraine called for the ceasefire to begin earlier, starting on the night of May 6.
Despite this, Russian troops continued their attacks on Ukrainian cities, prompting Kyiv to announce a reciprocal response to the ceasefire violations.
Subsequently, US President Donald Trump stated that a three-day ceasefire is allegedly expected between Ukraine and Russia, on May 9, 10, and 11, as well as a prisoner exchange.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed preparations for the exchange and emphasized that Ukraine would respond in kind to Russia’s actions in the event of new violations of the ceasefire.
