Trump considers new candidate for Ukraine peace envoy role - Reuters
US President-elect Donald Trump is considering retired General Keith Kellogg as a candidate for the role of his special envoy for peace in Ukraine. Previously, he presented a plan to end the war in Ukraine, according to Reuters.
According to sources cited by the publication, Kellogg is one of several potential candidates for the role of special envoy for peace in Ukraine.
Kellogg, a retired lieutenant general, served in the Trump administration during his first term (2017-2021) as Chief of Staff of the National Security Council and National Security Advisor to then-Vice President Mike Pence.
His plan to end the war, presented to Trump in July, proposes that Ukraine would receive additional US weapons only if it agrees to peace talks with Russia. The US would also warn Russia that if it refuses to negotiate, Washington will increase its support for Kyiv.
The plan also suggests freezing the frontlines at their current positions - an idea rejected by both sides.
Transition administration spokesperson Karoline Leavitt declined to comment on Kellogg’s candidacy, emphasizing that all appointments will be announced once decisions are finalized.
Recently, Fox News reported that Trump might soon appoint a special envoy for peace in Ukraine.
Later, it became known that Trump was considering appointing Richard Grenell as special envoy for the Russia-Ukraine war. Grenell, a Republican, previously served as Director of National Intelligence.
Media outlets have also reported that Boris Epshteyn, a Russian-born advisor, is seeking the position of special envoy for peace in Ukraine within Trump’s team.
