Trump claims Zelenskyy is open to deal as Russia faces major challenges
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready for an agreement, while economic challenges in Russia may push Putin to negotiations, the Voice of America reports, citing US President Donald Trump.
During his time in the Oval Office, Trump signed a series of executive orders and answered journalists' questions. Among other topics, he was asked about the war in Ukraine.
In response, Trump said that "Zelenskyy wants to reach an agreement." The US President expressed hope that Putin would also be ready for negotiations, noting that "he is destroying Russia by not making a deal."
"I think Russia has big problems. Just look at inflation in Russia... I would hope he wants to make a deal," Trump added.
The US President also revealed plans to meet with Putin. He did not disclose specific details or timelines for such a meeting, stating that "it could happen quite quickly."
In addition, Trump emphasized that he is working "as quickly as possible" to achieve an end to Russia's war in Ukraine, reiterating his claim that this war "should never have started."
"It wouldn't have started if I were President," he stressed.
