Trump could be decisive in ending war with Russia - Zelenskyy
US President-elect Donald Trump could play a decisive role in ending Russia's war against Ukraine by helping to stop Russian President Vladimir Putin, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during an interview aired on a national telethon.
"Trump could be decisive. For us, this is the most important thing. His qualities are what they are. He is capable of being decisive in this war. He is capable of stopping Putin — or more accurately, helping us stop Putin. He can do it," Zelenskyy said.
The president reminded that he has already had several conversations with Trump.
"I believe he is strong and unpredictable. I would like Trump’s unpredictability to be directed toward Russia. I think he genuinely wants to end the war. I believe this to be true," Zelenskyy added.
Trump’s intentions to end Russia's war against Ukraine
Donald Trump, during his US presidential campaign, expressed his intention to end Russia's war against Ukraine. He notably claimed he could achieve this on his first day in office.
In September, Trump reportedly promised Zelenskyy that he wanted to reach a "fair deal for everybody."
In December, the American press reported that Trump’s team was discussing plans with the White House and Ukrainian officials to end the war.
