US President Donald Trump tells reporters that the United States is liberating Cuba and helping the Cuban people, adding that there will be no escalation.
"We have a lot of people there. We had the CIA there. We have Marco is there. Marco's parents as you know were from Cuba. So we have a lot of expertise in Cuba. And it's not going to be like the biggest thing we've ever done, but I will tell you to a lot of people it's going to be one of the most important," Trump says.
At the same time, when asked whether any escalation with Cuba should be expected, the US President replied that there would be none.
"There won't be escalation. I don't think there needs to be. Look, the place is falling apart. It's a mess. And they've sort of lost control. They've really lost control of Cuba," he adds.
Trump wants to take over Cuba
Lately, US President Donald Trump has had more and more plans for Cuba. He has long said that the next target for the United States after Iran will be this Caribbean island.
During a speech to members of the Forum Club in West Palm Beach, the US leader stated that Washington intended to establish control over Cuba almost immediately.
The Trump administration has even begun discussing a possible strike on Cuba.
However, Havana has no plans to simply give in. Cuba has purchased drones to defend itself against the US.
For its part, the US has deployed an aircraft carrier strike group led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz to the Caribbean.
