Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský has expressed cautious optimism about the future of US support for Ukraine, even if Donald Trump wins the presidency, Novyny reports.

According to Lipavský, while it's uncertain whether a newly elected President Trump would halt support for Ukraine, any such change would not happen overnight.

“It doesn’t look like Donald Trump could flip a switch and leave Ukraine with nothing the next day,” Lipavský said.

The minister suggested that Trump would likely push European countries to take greater responsibility for their own security.

“We know he will demand that Europe invest more in its defense,” Lipavský emphasized, highlighting the importance of bolstering European military capabilities.

US aid to Ukraine

The United States is one of Ukraine’s key allies, providing substantial military support. Ukrainian armed forces have received armored vehicles, tanks, artillery, multiple-launch rocket systems, long-range missiles, ammunition, air defense systems, and other critical equipment from the US.

Media reports indicate that President Joe Biden's administration plans to allocate the remaining $6 billion in military aid for Ukraine before a potential Trump presidency. Additionally, Biden is expected to request Congress to approve extra funding for Ukraine through 2025.
