US President Donald Trump stated that he expects a decision from the Russian Federation on ending the war in Ukraine as early as this week, Trump made this statement during a conversation with journalists at the White House.

Journalists asked Trump how long the United States would wait for a response from Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the ceasefire proposal, and whether the US would impose new sanctions on Russia.

"We'll see what that will be. We're going to be hearing from them this week. Very shortly, actually, and we'll see. But we want the death and the killing to stop," Trump responded.

Ukraine–Russia ceasefire

During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine. However, after becoming President of the US, he began making pro-Russian statements and essentially blamed the Ukrainian leadership for the outbreak of the war.

Previously, Trump claimed that Zelenskyy was a "dictator without elections," saying that in three years of war, he had done nothing to end it. Later, Trump stated that Russia was responsible for the war, but still shifted part of the blame onto Zelenskyy and former US President Joe Biden.

Recently, Trump said that both former US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were to blame for the war in Ukraine. However, he later backtracked and eventually mentioned Putin as well.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also stated that Trump believes Russia wants to end the war in Ukraine. The US President reached this conclusion after his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, visited Moscow.
