Trump and Xi Jinping to hold phone call today — Key topics revealed

A phone call between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping is scheduled for Friday, 19 September. The leaders will discuss TikTok and a tariff truce between Washington and Beijing, Bloomberg reports.
According to the outlet, the Trump-Xi phone call is scheduled for 19 September at 9:00 a.m. Washington time.
This will be the first direct conversation between the leaders of the world’s largest economies since June. On the agenda are the future of ByteDance Ltd.’s TikTok and the tariff truce between Washington and Beijing.
Negotiators from both countries reached a framework agreement earlier this week to maintain TikTok operations in the US in accordance with national security law.
Under the agreement, US operations are to be acquired by a consortium that includes several companies. The final approval of the plan is expected to take place during the Trump-Xi conversation.
Trump stated that the American TikTok arm could be worth tens of billions of dollars.
"I hate to see value like that thrown out the window," he said earlier this week in Washington.
Friday’s conversation comes amid a slight easing of tensions in US-China relations. In particular, the parties agreed on a 90-day pause in the tariff war, which had caused significant concern in global markets.
Other disputable points remain, including China’s actions regarding Nvidia Corp., export controls over rare earth minerals, and potential Boeing aircraft orders.
In addition, Trump has called on allies to increase sanctions pressure on China and India over Russian energy purchases to weaken Kremlin support and stop Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Earlier, Trump summarized and announced his upcoming conversation with Xi Jinping. He noted that US-China trade talks in Europe had gone "very well."
TikTok in the US
On 17 September, the US again postponed a potential ban on TikTok. The app will remain available at least until mid-December.
The day before, China announced that a framework agreement with Washington on TikTok had been reached, while expressing dissatisfaction with the pressure on Chinese companies.
