Trump pushes back US TikTok ban

US President Donald Trump has once again postponed the introduction of a possible TikTok ban. The app will remain available in the country at least until mid-December, though its long-term future remains unresolved, according to a White House statement.
US President Donald Trump has signed an order extending the suspension of restrictions on TikTok until 16 December.
According to the directive, federal agencies are instructed not to take any action under the law that designates TikTok a national security threat, a designation based on the company’s ties to China and its parent structure.
The order stresses that the app still risks being banned in the US unless its ownership structure changes. The main US demand is that TikTok must be separated from its Chinese owner.
This marks the fourth postponement since the start of 2025, granted despite earlier announced agreements between Washington and Beijing. At the beginning of the year, Trump said the sides had found a compromise under which TikTok’s US operations would be spun off into a separate company registered on American soil, with a controlling stake held by US investors.
The White House decision leaves room for further negotiations. The app’s fate in the US still depends on whether the agreement is implemented and control passes to American shareholders.
Trump has also been weighing a halt to imports of Russian energy to the European Union, reportedly planning calls with Slovak prime minister Robert Fico and Hungarian leader Viktor Orban. He has further said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will ultimately have to strike a deal to end Russia’s war on Ukraine.
