US President Donald Trump plans to speak with Chinese leader Xi Jinping later this week. He noted that the trade talks between US and Chinese representatives in Europe went "very well," according to the White House chief on the social media platform Truth Social.

"The big Trade Meeting in Europe between the United States of America and China has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly. A deal was also reached on a 'certain' company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save. They will be very happy!" Trump wrote.

The US leader also announced a conversation with Xi Jinping, scheduled for September 19.

"I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains a very strong one!" Trump added.

As is known, on September 14, the fourth meeting in four months between US and Chinese officials began in Madrid.

The agenda included discussing unresolved trade issues and approaching the deadline for the sale of the US division of the Chinese video app TikTok.

During the meeting, representatives were also expected to discuss Washington's demands to G7 countries and European allies regarding tariffs on China, aimed at halting purchases of Russian oil.

At the same time, China threatened to take decisive measures in response if NATO countries, under US pressure, attempt to impose tariffs related to Russian oil purchases.

Trade tariffs

Trump previously announced his intention to impose 100% tariffs on Russia’s trading partners, noting that he had never done this before but now wants to act decisively.

The White House chief urged China and India to stop purchasing Russian oil in order to limit funding for the war against Ukraine.

However, as a result, Trump is not rushing to impose new restrictions on China, citing the active phase of trade negotiations between the two countries.

Bloomberg reported that the US and China are trying to avoid a new economic war, but so far have not succeeded in eliminating this risk.
