Trump and UK Prime Minister Burnham discuss ceasefire in Ukraine

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and US President Donald Trump discussed by phone the need to continue working toward a ceasefire in Ukraine, the British government said.
The leaders agreed that they should continue moving toward a ceasefire that would prevent further loss of life. Burnham reaffirmed Britain's support for Ukraine and the recent US-led peace talks.
The conversation began with greetings, with Burnham congratulating Trump on Labor Day. On the economy, the British prime minister congratulated the US president on the country's latest employment figures and noted positive signs of growth in the British economy, saying that the government is working to achieve greater positive momentum, although much work remains to be done.
Burnham outlined Britain's commitment to working for peace and security in the region, emphasizing the importance of a two-state solution, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner recently held a series of meetings in Kyiv. The US side held talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian negotiating team and European representatives.
US officials made their first statements on the talks and the further path toward peace. According to them, the United States is working not simply to pause the conflict, but to create a clear framework for building long-term peace and ending hostilities.
