US President Donald Trump openly acknowledged that the United States is currently focused on Iran rather than Ukraine, Forbes reports.
What Trump said about Ukraine
When directly asked about peace negotiations, the US president did not give a specific answer.
“Ukraine is moving along. I wish they could get along. Frankly, a lot of people are dying in Ukraine. We’ll see what happens,” he said.
Iran is the priority
Trump directly stated where his focus currently lies.
“We're focused so much right now on Iran, seeing how we can get it completed,” he said.
According to him, a deal with Iran will be with "no nuclear weapons." He also noted that the stock market is good and oil prices are falling, which he considers positive signals.
At the same time, Trump reported a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the president of Lebanon. According to him, both sides are ready for a ceasefire that will also involve Hezbollah.
Talks on Iran are ongoing
When asked about the specific timing of the next round of talks, Trump gave a vague answer.
“They're all important. It’s not a question of Iran. All of them are important,” the US president said.
Meanwhile, the United States has already warned European allies about delays in weapons deliveries due to the depletion of its own stockpiles amid the Iran campaign. The most acute shortage is in air defense systems such as the Patriot missile system, which are also critically needed by Ukraine.
Trump also commented for the first time on Russia’s massive attack against Ukraine. “I think it’s terrible,” Trump said.
