US President Donald Trump said that the AH-64 Apache military helicopter that crashed in the area of the Strait of Hormuz was shot down by Iran, according to Trump’s statement on Truth Social.

"I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz," the post reads.

The US president noted that there were two pilots on board the helicopter — both were not injured in the incident.

At the same time, Trump emphasized that the US must respond to this attack.

Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported that an investigation found the Apache crash was caused by a collision with an Iranian drone.

According to a US official, it has not yet been determined whether the collision was intentional.

What preceded this

The New York Times reported that on June 8, an American AH-64 Apache attack helicopter crashed near the Strait of Hormuz. The loss of this equipment was the first since the start of the war with Iran.

The US president confirmed the crash and said a rescue operation had been successful. The exact cause of the crash was still unknown at the time.

At the beginning of the operation in Iraq, daily US expenses reached about half a billion dollars. Washington’s current losses from Tehran’s strikes may be significantly higher, depending on the type of equipment that was on the attacked US assets.

At the same time, US Vice President JD Vance acknowledged that Washington and Jerusalem have differing views on the Iranian issue. For the United States, the main priority remains signing a nuclear agreement with Tehran.
