US Vice President JD Vance has openly acknowledged that Washington and Jerusalem may have differing interests regarding Iran. The US's primary goal is a nuclear deal with Iran, according to Fox News.

What Vance says

In an interview with Fox News, the Vice President clearly distinguished between the positions of the two allies.

"The Israelis and the United States, we have a lot of shared interests. But we also have some situations where our interests diverge," he says.

According to Vance, the US's primary goal regarding Iran is to prevent the development of nuclear weapons.

Washington is convinced that over the past year and a half, it has created the conditions for a long-term resolution of the nuclear issue.

"Now, Israel may like that, they may not like that, but fundamentally, we think this is in the best interest of the United States of America," he notes, adding that Washington will continue pursuing that goal because "that's what the President of the United States was elected to do."

Late on the evening of June 7, Iran launched at least three waves of missile strikes against Israel for the first time since April; about 10 missiles were intercepted, and there were no casualties from direct hits.

After the attack, Trump called Netanyahu and urged him to refrain from retaliating, assuring him that negotiations with Iran were entering the home stretch. Israel ignored the request and, on the morning of June 8, launched strikes against missile launchers and military infrastructure in Iran.

That same day, Iran announced the suspension of operations against Israel but threatened tougher and more destructive actions if Israel continued its operation in Lebanon.
