Trump accuses Harris of using skin color for political gain
Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for the US presidential election, said that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has only recently started pretending to be black to win the favor of African Americans, although she had previously identified herself as Indian.
“I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn black. And now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” he says.
Harris's father is a black man from Jamaica, and his mother is from India.
In addition, Trump distorted his opponent's name several times, pronouncing it with an emphasis on the second syllable, although the emphasis should be on the first syllable.
Speaking about the need to fight immigration, he said that illegal immigrants are taking jobs in the United States that could be filled by black people.
Trump also says that millions of people are coming to the US and taking the black jobs, Hispanics, and union jobs.
When asked by a journalist what the politician had done for black Americans, the Republican candidate said he had been the best president for black people since Abraham Lincoln.
Divisiveness and disrespect for people
Kamala Harris' reaction to these accusations was not long in coming. The current Vice President called Trump's statements about her race "the same old show" with a demonstration of division and disrespect.
“Today, we were given yet another reminder. This afternoon, Donald Trump spoke at the annual meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists, and it was the same old show, the divisiveness and the disrespect. Let me just say, the American people deserve better,” she says during a speech in Houston.
According to Harris, “The American people deserve a leader who tells the truth” and "does not respond to hostility and anger“.
“We deserve a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us. They are an essential source of our strength,” the Vice President adds.
Trump and Harris in presidential race
After the current US President Joe Biden withdrew his candidacy from the presidential election on July 21, the most likely Democratic candidate was the current Vice President Kamala Harris.
During the first week of her campaign, the politician raised $200 million.
The Democratic Party plans to approve a new presidential candidate before the party convention by voting online.
Harris announced her readiness to take part in a debate with her opponent. Trump is ready to take part in the debates in November, although he may reject the idea.
