TikTok introduces new safety measures for children

On Tuesday, TikTok announced new tools to help parents monitor their children's activity on the app, informs TechCrunch.
What new features for teenagers appeared in app
As part of the Family Pairing update, parents will be able to limit TikTok usage time, view their teenagers' subscription and blocked user lists, as well as receive notifications if their child reports a video.
One of the key features is Time Away, which allows parents to block access to TikTok during certain hours — for example, during study time, family time, at night, or on weekends. If necessary, the teenager can request extra time, but the decision remains with the parents.

Another new feature is the "wind-down." If a teenager under 16 accesses TikTok after 10:00 PM, their feed will be hidden, and a message with relaxing music will appear on the screen, encouraging them to put the phone down and rest.
If the user ignores the message, the app will remind them again to disconnect. TikTok plans to add meditation exercises to this feature soon.
Additionally, the company will restore the STEM feed (section with science and technology content) for teenagers who had previously disabled it.

TikTok continues to introduce new safety measures for teenagers as the platform faces pressure from lawmakers. In recent years, the company has been repeatedly criticized for the potential harm social media can cause to young users.
