On Thursday evening, July 24, large crowds took to the streets in Kyiv to protest a law that reduces the powers of NABU and SAPO. This marks the third consecutive day of demonstrations in the capital.

More details about the protests can be found in the material by RBC-Ukraine.

According to eyewitnesses, a large number of people gathered near the Ivan Franko Theater carrying signs. However, the number of protesters today is significantly lower than yesterday.

Protesters chose this location because it is the closest spot to the Presidential Office on Bankova Street. Yesterday, the crowd was even visible from the Presidential Office building itself.

According to RBC-Ukraine's sources, up to 5,000 people may have gathered near the Ivan Franko Theater on the first day of the protests, July 22.

The square itself can hold about 2,500 people at once, but participants came and went throughout the evening, meaning the total number of attendees throughout the protest could have reached around 5,000.

Protests in other cities

In the previous two days, demonstrators also gathered in several other cities, including Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and others.

Today, reports have already emerged online about smaller protests in Odesa compared to yesterday.

Law on NABU and SAPO

On July 22, the Verkhovna Rada approved a law that limits the powers of NABU and SAPO.

Under the new law, the Prosecutor General now has the authority to interfere in investigations: transferring cases to other agencies, changing jurisdiction, and issuing mandatory instructions to NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors.

Today, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted his draft law on NABU and SAPO to the Parliament. What is known about this document can be found in the material by RBC-Ukraine.
