The war has completely destroyed Iran's military capabilities, leaving it with no air force, navy, air defenses, or radars, stated US President Donald Trump on Truth Social.
"The war has diminished Iran! It doesn’t, any longer, have an Air Force, a Navy, antiaircraft equipment, radar, or practically anything else, and yet the Democrats say that Iran is better off now than it was four months ago. Can you imagine getting away with that?" Trump wrote.
The President also commented on the 60-day negotiation period stipulated by the memorandum with Tehran.
"We didn’t meet out of desperation, Iran did. They are FINISHED! We’ll play out the 60 days. They get no money, not ten cents!" Trump said.
On June 17, Trump confirmed the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Iran.
The document provides for a 60-day ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the start of negotiations regarding Tehran's nuclear program. The official signing is scheduled for June 19 in Geneva.
The war between the US and Iran had been ongoing since late February 2026. The conflict was accompanied by disputes in Congress over the legality of hostilities without congressional approval.
