US President Donald Trump has officially confirmed that he signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran, according to Fox News and a post on X from the White House page.

"It is signed," Trump told journalists as he left the Palace of Versailles after dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron.

In a comment to Fox News, a White House official said that a photograph of the signed agreement was sent to Iran and the mediator countries to officially bring the document into force.

Later, the White House posted footage on its X page of Trump signing the agreement. The document was signed at the Palace of Versailles in the presence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as other individuals. The signing was accompanied by applause.

What preceded this

Several hours ago, the media reported that the US and Iran had reached a framework agreement earlier than announced. Previously, the signing ceremony was planned for Friday, June 19, in Switzerland.

According to Reuters, the parties signed the agreement electronically on Sunday. Specifically, signatures were affixed by US Vice President JD Vance and Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. This took place in Trump's presence.

But on Wednesday, June 17, the agreement was signed directly by Trump himself and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. At the same time, conflicting information initially appeared in the media as to whether this was an electronic signature or a signature on a paper document (later, it turned out that Trump had signed the paper version).

Iran's Foreign Ministry also confirmed the signing and stated that the ceremony on Friday in Switzerland would no longer take place. However, they noted that negotiating groups would be in Geneva.

According to Axios, the parties will discuss the start of negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.

What else is known

On Wednesday, June 17, the US published the official text of the memorandum of understanding with Iran. It consists of 14 points.

However, as the media noted, the document was published after protests related to the fact that the text of the agreement had not been made public before the signing.

Now, after the signing of the agreement, the US and Iran have 60 days to finalize the final document to end the war. In particular, negotiations on Iran's nuclear program are to begin. By the way, Trump has already threatened that if an agreement is not reached within this timeframe, the US will resume attacks on Iran.
