These teas help reduce belly fat: List
Fat on the abdomen is called visceral fat, it accumulates around the organs of the abdominal cavity and is located deeper than other fats in the body. Excess visceral fat can lead to an increased risk of developing heart disease or diabetes.
There is no food or drink that can independently get rid of belly fat, but some products contain certain compounds, vitamins, and nutrients that, according to research, can help in burning abdominal fat within the context of a balanced diet.
RBC-Ukraine provides this information with reference to the Eat This, Not That.
Green tea
Green tea can be one of the most popular teas for burning abdominal fat. According to a recent 2022 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, participants who consumed 4 or more cups of green tea had a 44% lower risk of developing abdominal obesity compared to those who did not drink green tea.
Research suggests that most of the weight loss properties of green tea can be attributed to its rich content of polyphenols, with a subgroup of these polyphenols known as catechins. The most common catechin found in green tea is EGCG, which is associated with an increased metabolism.
While EGCG can be found in other types of tea, green tea has the highest concentration of these plant compounds that boost metabolism.
Oolong tea
Oolong tea is made from the same leaves as green and black tea, but it undergoes partial oxidation, whereas green tea remains unoxidized, and black tea undergoes full oxidation. Oolong tea is produced by drying the leaves in the sun until they wither and curl.
Research indicates that oolong tea also contains polyphenols that accelerate metabolism and reduce abdominal fat. One study on animals, published in The Journal of Nutrition, demonstrated that polyphenols in green, black, and oolong teas can help reduce visceral fat.
A 2020 study conducted by the University of Tsukuba even found that oolong tea increased fat breakdown by approximately 20%. It burned fat even when participants were at rest.
Black tea
In a 2016 report published in the journal Molecules, it is mentioned that the polyphenols found in black tea counteract obesity and may help reduce body weight and visceral fat.
Participants in a 2014 study published in Food & Function, who consumed 3 cups of black tea daily for three months, experienced greater weight loss and a reduction in waist circumference compared to those who did not drink tea.
White tea
White tea is known as the most delicate and least processed type of tea.
It has been found that, along with green and oolong tea, white tea accelerates metabolism and enhances fat oxidation, which may contribute to overall weight loss or control.
A recent 2023 report published in Food Safety & Health also concluded that white tea has a positive impact on weight loss as well as visceral fat.
Puerh tea
One type of fermented Chinese black tea, puerh, is known to aid in weight loss.
A 2014 study published in Phytotherapy Research showed that male participants with metabolic syndrome who consumed puerh tea experienced a modest reduction in fat and body mass index.
Another study in Nutrition Research found that puerh tea extract helped reduce body weight, BMI, and visceral fat in Japanese adults.
