Zelenskyy’s comments about Prime Minister Viktor Orbán are a threat, according to Hungarian government spokesperson Zoltán Kovács.

"When someone threatens to give a person’s address to Ukrainian soldiers simply because they do not support another €90 billion weapons package, that is not diplomacy, it is an open threat," he wrote on X.

Hungary’s Secretary of State for International Communication said on X that the "threats and blackmail" from Ukraine’s President went "far beyond every acceptable limit."

"This is outrageous. Personal emotions have no place in matters like this," he added.

What happened

On March 5, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he would give Orbán’s address to Ukrainian troops if Hungary continued to block the €90 billion loan.

"We hope that one person in the EU will not block 90 billion euros, or the first tranche of the 90 billion, and that Ukrainian soldiers will have weapons. Otherwise, we will give the address of this person to our armed forces, to our guys. Let them call him and speak with him in their own language," Zelenskyy said.

Blocking aid to Ukraine from the EU

Earlier, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola signed an agreement providing Ukraine with a €90 billion loan for 2026–2027 to ensure the country’s stability during the war.

However, Hungary blocked the funding, issuing an ultimatum: the loan would be approved only after Ukraine resumed the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline, according to Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

Orbán’s statements toward Ukraine are linked to Hungary’s upcoming parliamentary elections. He has used the image of an external enemy and foreign pressure as part of his election strategy.

Today, the Hungarian Prime Minister again accused Ukraine of blocking the Druzhba pipeline and threatened to restore its operation by force. In his statements, Orbán said there would be "no compromises" and that he would "forcibly break Ukraine’s oil blockade."
