Russia carried out a combined attack on Ukraine on the night of November 19. The enemy first struck Kharkiv with drones, and later launched massive strikes in the western part of the country.

RBC-Ukraine details the consequences of the Russian attack.

Key points

  • Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 470 drones and 48 missiles; Kharkiv and the western part of the country came under fire.
  • The enemy’s target is the energy sector. This attack caused emergency power outages across the country. At the moment, most regions are operating under schedules.
  • Kharkiv: 19 drones over two districts, 46 injured (including 2 children), damaged buildings, infrastructure, and transport.
  • Ternopil: damaged high-rise buildings, many killed and wounded. Chlorine levels in the air in the city are elevated.
  • Lviv: smoke from burning tires at warehouses, an energy facility, and an enterprise were hit.
  • Prykarpattia: explosions in Burshtyn, strikes on energy infrastructure. 3 injured (including 2 children).
  • Cherkasy region: 10 missiles and 17 drones shot down, damaged power lines, and a house.
  • Donetsk region, Kyiv region, Mykolaiv region, Chernihiv region, Dnipropetrovsk region — explosions were also heard.

Russian forces terrorized peaceful Ukrainian cities from late evening until this morning. At first, the enemy massively launched attack drones at Kharkiv, targeting buildings in two districts.

Later, the enemy carried out a large-scale combined strike on Ukraine, aimed primarily at the west, which was attacked for several hours by dozens of drones.

By early morning, the aggressor launched Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles, and around six in the morning struck with cruise missiles from Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers. The Russians also used Kinzhal missiles from MiG-31K fighter jets.

The energy sector is under attack

By early morning, the Ministry of Energy stated that Russia was again attacking our energy infrastructure in the Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Cherkasy, and Donetsk regions.

Emergency power outages were introduced in several Ukrainian regions, mostly in the west.

Later, energy workers switched from emergency outages to hourly schedules across the country. Power limitation schedules for industrial consumers and businesses also continue to operate in most regions.

Ternopil — a destroyed high-rise building

The worst destruction from the combined Russian attack occurred in Ternopil. A high-rise building was destroyed there, and another multi-story building caught fire. Smoke rose over the city. At least 10 people are known to have been killed and 37 injured; people may be under the rubble.

Two residential nine-story buildings in the city were critically damaged. One caught fire, while the other suffered destruction from the 3rd to the 9th floors.

Rescuers continue evacuating people from blocked apartments.

“Killers struck our city with missiles and Shaheds. Buildings and residential houses are damaged. There are victims. Relevant services are working at the site. I will provide more detailed information later,” wrote the mayor of the city, Serhii Nadal.

A rescue operation is underway.

Also, according to the regional administration, in Ternopil, preliminarily, after the impacts, the chlorine content in the air exceeds the norm sixfold. Residents are urged to stay indoors and keep windows closed whenever possible.

Lviv covered in smoke after an impact

Thick smoke over Lviv is the result of burning tires at warehouses hit by the enemy. There is currently no information about casualties, Mayor Andrii Sadovyi reported.

“According to preliminary data, the smoke does not pose a health threat. But just in case, keep your windows closed,” he said.

A woodworking enterprise was also destroyed.

Burshtyn under fire

Monitoring channels reported the movement of enemy targets toward Burshtyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Explosions were heard in the city, where the Burshtyn TPP is located.

“According to preliminary data, three people were injured in the Ivano-Frankivsk district, including two children. They are receiving the necessary medical care. At this time, we know of damage to one household,” she added.

Kharkiv — dozens injured

Heating and water supply in Kharkiv have already been restored. There are some disruptions in public transport and electricity supply. In some settlements of the region, repair work is still ongoing.

The Russian troops also struck with drones in two districts of Kharkiv. 19 Geran-2 attack drones flew at the Slobidskyi and Osnovianskyi districts.

Russia used more than 470 drones and 48 missiles. Zelenskyy reacted

“Russia launched more than 470 attack drones and 48 missiles of various types against Ukraine overnight – one ballistic and the rest cruise missiles,” the head of state wrote on X.

It also became known that one person was injured in the Donetsk region. Kyiv region, Mykolaiv region, Chernihiv region, and Dnipropetrovsk region were also under attack.

The President stated that “every brazen attack against ordinary life proves that the pressure on Russia is still insufficient.” But effective sanctions and assistance to Ukraine can change this.

“The top priority is air defense missiles, additional systems, expanded capabilities for our combat aviation, and drone production to protect lives. Russia must be held accountable for its actions, and we must stay focused on everything that strengthens us and enables us to shoot down Russian missiles, neutralize Russian drones, and stop assaults,” he added.
