Terms for appointing new Ukrainian Minister of Defense announced
Next week, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will vote on the resignation of the current Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, and on the appointment of Rustem Umerov, the current head of the State Property Fund, to his position, states Davyd Arakhamia, the head of the "Servant of the People" faction.
According to him, the Verkhovna Rada will dismiss Reznikov and Umerov from their positions and appoint the latter as the Minister of Defense.
"There won't be any more personnel matters this week," Arakhamia wrote.
Additionally, next week, there will be a vote on the restoration of asset declarations for all officials in a "format agreed upon with international partners" and the law on politically exposed persons (PEPs).
Reznikov's dismissal
After several scandals related to defense procurement, the media began to discuss the possible resignation of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, more frequently. On September 3, sources from RBC-Ukraine reported on changes within the Ministry of Defense and the replacement of Reznikov with Rustem Umerov. Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed this information.
