The German government has not yet made a decision on supplying long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, Bild reports.

As the outlet notes, recent statements by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz supporting Ukraine's right to use long-range weapons to strike targets inside Russia sparked speculation that Germany might approve the delivery of Taurus missiles.

Some speculated that the decision could be announced during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Berlin on Wednesday, May 28.

However, government sources told Bild that no decision has yet been made regarding the delivery of Taurus missiles. According to the outlet, this undermines the weight of Merz's statements.

"Removing range restrictions only makes sense if Germany is now prepared to supply weapons and ammunition with greater range," said military expert Nico Lange, quoted by Bild.

Taurus missile delivery to Ukraine

Recently, German media reported that the new German government has allegedly decided to classify details about arms deliveries to Ukraine. Under former Chancellor Olaf Scholz, such information was publicly available and regularly published online.

Earlier, Germany's new Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, stated that he was ready to approve the transfer of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's ambassador to Brazil, Andrii Melnyk — who previously served in Berlin — noted that the decision on Taurus missiles would be Merz's first real test. According to Melnyk, Germany's leadership in the free world depends on this decision.

Merz also stated that several months ago, Ukraine's allies agreed to lift restrictions on how Ukraine could use the weapons provided to it. This move would allow Kyiv to strike military targets deep inside Russian territory.
