Taiwan restricts DeepSeek as security threat
Taiwan has banned government agencies and critical infrastructure service providers from using DeepSeek technology. Chinese artificial intelligence technology poses a security threat, Bloomberg reports.
According to a statement from Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs, DeepSeek's work is associated with security issues such as cross-border transmission and information leakage.
The open-source DeepSeek platform was launched in January. Presumably, this artificial intelligence model was developed and trained at the expense of competitors' platforms. The free application has gained popularity around the world, ranking first in terms of the number of downloads to smartphones in many countries.
However, there are fears that the data and other information collected by the company may be transferred to the Chinese government. Taiwan warns that no proprietary or confidential information should be used when requesting DeepSeek.
"It is a product that endangers national information security," the ministry added.
Earlier, due to the threat of data leakage, DeepSeek was blocked in Italy. The UK has issued a warning to its citizens and businesses, and the US Pentagon has restricted access. Hundreds of companies, including law firms, have also banned their employees from using DeepSeek tools.
It became known that the US Congress has banned employees from using DeepSeek as well. The US authorities are also checking whether DeepSeek bought Nvidia chips bypassing the restrictions.
