Türkiye is calling for a moratorium on hostilities in two areas that are critical not only for Russia and Ukraine, said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a press conference in Kyiv on July 16.

Fidan proposes a partial moratorium on hostilities

The Turkish Foreign Minister stated that his country’s ultimate goal remains a complete end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

"If that is not possible, a moratorium on hostilities could be introduced in several critical areas that are important not only to Ukraine and Russia, but to all countries," Fidan noted.

He urged both sides to halt attacks in two key areas: Black Sea and energy infrastructure.

Sybiha expresses gratitude to Türkiye

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Kyiv.

The two ministers held detailed talks covering:

  • The bilateral and international agenda,

  • Peace efforts,

  • The roles of the US and Europe,

  • Ukraine’s practical peace proposals.

Sybiha highlighted Türkiye's important long-standing role in the peace process and expressed confidence that its potential could continue to be utilized.

Earlier, Andrii Sybiha stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, potentially in Ankara, noting that the Turkish capital is one of the world's diplomatic capitals.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also described the NATO summit in Ankara as historic, stating that the allies had successfully reached a consensus.
