Switzerland joins latest EU sanctions package against Russia
Switzerland has decided to implement restrictions against Russia as outlined in the 14th package of EU sanctions, according to the press service of the Swiss government.
"On 21 August, the Federal Council decided to adopt further measures of the EU's 14th package of sanctions against Russia," the government statement said.
The office reminded that the 14th EU sanctions package against Russia includes clarifications regarding the ban on the import of Russian diamonds.
The government noted that these measures will take effect on August 27. Additionally, on July 9, Switzerland had already added 69 individuals and 47 entities to its sanctions list.
What preceded
The European Union approved the 14th sanctions package against Russia on June 24. The measures specifically targeted the export of Russian LNG.
The sanctions prohibit the transshipment of LNG to the EU for further export to third countries, though they do not ban the import of LNG into EU countries.
Additionally, EU companies operating outside Russia are banned from connecting to the Russian equivalent of SWIFT - the System for Transfer of Financial Messages (SPFB).
