Swift end to war would be Ukraine's capitulation: Borrell states
The path to a swift end to the war in Ukraine is to stop supporting Kyiv. However, the European Union does not want this, according to the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell at the Europe and the World conference.
According to Borrell, Ukrainians cannot defend themselves against Russia's aggression independently and require European assistance. Additionally, the European Union does not want to see Ukraine surrender to the regime of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
Borrell stated that he knew how to swiftly end the war and expressed concern that if he were to cease supporting Ukraine, it would lead to the capitulation of the Ukrainians. He questioned whether they desired the war to conclude in such a manner and stressed that they could not permit Putin to establish a puppet government in Kyiv while positioning the Russian army near the Polish border.
The head of European diplomacy also adds that if Putin had known how the EU and other allies would have supported the Ukrainians, he might not have considered invading Ukraine.
Military aid to Ukraine from the EU
As is known, the European Union aims to train 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers by the end of 2023.
The EU is also working on the establishment of the Assistance Fund for Ukraine for the period 2024-2027. The fund, necessary to meet the military needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, is expected to be created by the end of the year.
Previously, Borrell called on the EU to provide continuous military support to Ukraine, emphasizing that without military assistance, Ukraine would not be able to defend itself.
