Swedish government to announce today largest package of defense aid to Ukraine - DN
Sweden plans to send a record defense package to Ukraine, totaling 7.1 billion Swedish kronor (approximately 700 million dollars). Stockholm will announce this today, February 20, according to Dagens Nyheter.
This package of aid from Sweden to Ukraine, which continues to repel widescale military aggression from Russia, will be the 15th of its kind.
Currently, its contents are not disclosed, but it is indicated that the package will include military equipment and gear from the stocks of the Armed Forces of this Scandinavian country.
The Dagens Nyheter also mentions the intention to allocate funds for the purchase of new defense equipment from manufacturers. It will later be transferred to Ukraine.
It is expected that the announcement of the provision of another batch of aid from Stockholm to the Ukrainian side will be made during press conferences on Tuesday with the participation of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Defense Minister Pål Jonson.
Aid from Sweden to Ukraine
At the end of November last year, it became known that Sweden would provide financial aid to Ukraine. The money will go towards the Grain From Ukraine initiative.
It was also reported that on December 11, 2023, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced the allocation of a new package of aid to Ukraine amounting to $133.5 million, including support for the energy sector during the winter period.
Sweden, together with the UK, recently joined the drone coalition for Ukraine.
Additionally, at the end of January, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Sweden has provided 93 humanitarian shipments totaling 1108 tons of assistance to the energy sector of our country.
