Sweden will provide winter support to Ukraine through the World Bank, allocating over $40 million to help the country recover and strengthen its resilience, according to the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the announcement, Sweden is increasing its contribution to the World Bank's Trust Fund to assist Ukraine as winter approaches.
The amount totals 385 million Swedish kronor ($40.8 million). The fund helps address Ukraine's most urgent needs, boost its resilience, and ensure long-term recovery.
In connection with this initiative, Sweden's Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, met with the World Bank’s Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde.
Sweden recently allocated €66.4 million to Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility program — the first contribution of its kind.
Benjamin Dousa emphasized that Ukraine's economic stability is essential to continue paying pensions and salaries and to keep healthcare, schools, and social services functioning.
Meanwhile, the European Union is preparing to increase gas supplies to Ukraine amid intensified Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called on the European Commission to propose additional measures to strengthen Ukraine's energy security.
The EU also decided to reach out to third countries to secure repair equipment and further boost gas deliveries to Ukraine.
