Sweden is planning to announce a new aid package for Ukraine in the field of air defense very soon, according to a statement by Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal on Twitter (X).

"Sweden is expected to announce a new support package for Ukraine in the field of air defense in the near future. I sincerely thank Sweden for this assistance, which saves the lives of Ukrainians," he said.

Shmyhal also discussed progress on the delivery of Gripen aircraft with his Swedish counterpart, Pål Johnson. According to the minister, preparations are underway to begin training Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel.

"(I) informed my colleague about Russia’s massive aerial attack on Tuesday night. F-16 aircraft destroyed the vast majority of the 35 enemy cruise missiles. (I) noted Sweden’s significant contribution to strengthening our air capabilities," Shmyhal added.

Ukraine’s air defense

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine is facing a shortage of certain missiles for its air defense systems. He called on the European Union either to provide this weaponry or to give funds for its procurement.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is working to strengthen its air defense, but everything depends on the technical capabilities of specialists. He emphasized that the country is close to achieving the necessary results.

The Ukrainian president also noted that Ukraine currently cannot produce missiles for Western air defense systems on its own, explaining that the reason is the lack of licenses.

RBC-Ukraine also reported that Germany recently delivered two Patriot air defense systems to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the ninth Iris-T air defense system.
