Ukraine is working on strengthening its air defense, but everything depends on the technical capabilities of its specialists, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting with diplomats.

"As for our air defense systems, we are not just talking about signals, because Ukraine is actively working on this. Everything depends on the technical capabilities of our specialists — how quickly they can accomplish it," he emphasized.

The president noted that "air defense isn’t built overnight" and added that "we would like it to happen even faster." According to him, Ukraine is close to achieving the necessary results.

Zelenskyy said he wants to see results first before discussing them in more detail.

"Of course, we want the war to end, and we will continue strengthening ourselves. There is a strong contract we are working on regarding a couple of dozen Patriot systems with the Americans, to be procured through various programs. This is all part of what we are working on, and I am confident the results will come," the Ukrainian leader stressed.

He recalled that about 20 years ago, there were 200–250 S-300 air defense systems in Kyiv alone.

"Imagine how many would be needed for our entire country. Imagine the percentage we have now. And imagine how many more are still needed. It will not be easy to find the funds for all this. That is why our air defense systems are necessary at any given moment," Zelenskyy said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia may carry out massive strikes on Ukraine during the Christmas period, despite claims that there will be no so-called Christmas ceasefire.

The country’s leader emphasized that, as a result, strengthening air defenses has become a key issue at the Supreme Commander’s headquarters.

Previously, Zelenskyy had mentioned that Ukraine faces a shortage of certain missiles for its air defense systems. He called on Europe either to provide this weaponry or to give funds for its purchase.
