Sweden allocates €116 million to Ukraine for winter: How funds will be used

Sweden announced a new humanitarian aid package for Ukraine ahead of winter, totaling 1.1 billion Swedish kronor (over 116 million euros), according to the Swedish Embassy in Ukraine on Twitter (X).
The allocated funds will be directed "toward Ukraine’s most urgent needs," including energy, reconstruction, demining, and more.
"We must strengthen Ukraine’s resilience in every way," said Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa.
The government’s website specifies that the aid package is aimed at addressing Ukraine’s most urgent needs in areas such as energy supply, housing, healthcare, demining, support for refugees, and independent media. In particular:
-
450 million Swedish kronor will be allocated to meet Ukraine’s energy needs before and during the winter, including electricity production and the repair of critical infrastructure;
-
385 million Swedish kronor will be directed to the World Bank’s Ukraine Reconstruction Trust Fund for the repair of energy and housing infrastructure, support for refugees, and “strengthening the country’s administrative capacity and its ability to provide public services”;
-
100 million Swedish kronor are earmarked for demining work and the economic recovery of mined areas;
-
30 million Swedish kronor will go to support independent Ukrainian media;
-
25 million Swedish kronor are allocated to strengthen Ukraine’s justice sector;
-
10 million Swedish kronor are designated for professional training in logistics and transport to reinforce the Ukrainian labor market.
The new aid package also includes support for basic humanitarian needs, such as food, housing, emergency assistance, and heating.
Assistance to Ukraine from Sweden
We previously reported that Sweden will provide Ukraine with weapons worth $836 million as part of another military aid package.
Specifically, under the package, the country will purchase 18 new Archer systems and an additional 155 mm ammunition worth $327 million. As a result, Ukraine will have a total of 44 such artillery systems. Ukrainian troops have confirmed their effectiveness against Russian targets.
