Suspect in Trump assassination attempt faces initial charges
A federal court in Florida has brought the first charges against Ryan Routh. He is suspected of an alleged attempt to assassinate US presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to CNN and BBC.
Both charges involve illegal possession of firearms, which will allow for Routh to be held in custody until the investigation is complete.
Specifically, Routh is charged with possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon and with possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number.
It is important to note that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be brought.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the defendant could not afford a private attorney, claiming he did not have the financial means.
A hearing on Routh's bail is scheduled for September 23, and the arraignment is set for September 30.
Possible assassination attempt on Trump
It was reported that last night there was a shooting at Trump's golf course. Initially, it was stated that the shots were not related to the presidential candidate, but later the FBI described the incident as "resembling an attempt to kill former President Trump."
Several reports quickly appeared online linking the alleged suspect to Ukraine. Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, warned that Russia might use the shooting incident involving Trump against Ukraine.
Today, the Defense Intelligence issued an official statement emphasizing that Routh had no affiliation with the International Legion of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
