Serbia is ready to become a mediator country and host peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić said on Fox News.

According to him, Belgrade is among the states offering its services for the negotiation process, since the war must be stopped as soon as possible.

Đurić emphasized that Serbia officially supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries within the borders recognized by the UN, including Ukraine.

He also stressed that the state values its unique geopolitical balance between East and West while maintaining close relations with the United States.

"Serbia is very proud of its independent foreign and security policy, which has been deeply rooted in the history of our nation and has enabled us to remain independent for centuries, although we are small," the foreign minister noted.

Peace talks

President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on two of Russia’s largest oil companies. According to the US Department of the Treasury, the new sanctions against Russia were introduced to force Putin to engage in serious negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.

Earlier, Trump announced a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Budapest. But Trump later canceled the expected meeting. He decided not to hold talks with Putin because he believed he would not achieve the desired result.

Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has already called the US sanctions and the cancellation of the summit with Putin an “act of war” against Russia.

Trump also stated that Zelenskyy and Putin should stop the war within the territorial boundaries that exist at the moment and make a deal.

"They should stop where they are. Let both claim Victory, let History decide! No more shooting, no more Death, no more vast and unsustainable sums of money spent," Trump emphasized.

Zelenskyy supported the words of the US president, stressing that he is ready for any format that could bring peace closer.

Russia has already rejected Trump’s proposal. According to Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, Moscow does not want a ceasefire.
