Supporting Ukraine is main task of Czech foreign policy - Czech President
In Czechia's foreign and security policy, there is no more important task than further support for Ukraine, stated Czech President Petr Pavel.
According to him, Czech foreign policy should ensure that "rules continue to apply in the international environment and that the law of the strongest does not prevail."
"Stopping, and above all, the failure of Russian aggression is in our vital interests," Pavel emphasized.
He added that a Russian victory would have consequences for economic and political stability.
The Czech President noted that the country has managed to maintain a unified, predictable, and clear position on the key issue of supporting Ukraine, not only at the government level but also with the opposition.
According to Pavel, Czechia has demonstrated its commitment to helping Ukraine. Specifically, the initiative to supply artillery ammunition to countries outside the EU helps Ukrainian defenders overcome a critical period.
Czech assistance to Ukraine
At the beginning of 2024, Czech President Petr Pavel stated that Prague had found hundreds of thousands of shells for Ukraine, but the project requires funding. Subsequently, several Western countries joined the initiative.
Recently, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced that by the end of 2024, Ukraine will receive approximately another 500,000 ammunition rounds as part of this initiative.
Additionally, the Czech Ministry of Defense is preparing to launch a new initiative this year to supply artillery ammunition to Ukraine, with Czech manufacturers participating this time.
