Czech Prime Minister announces 500,000 shells to be delivered to Ukraine by year-end
Czechia will supply Ukraine with about 500,000 pieces of ammunition by the end of 2024 as part of its initiative, according to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
He states that deliveries would continue at the projected pace in the coming months, and by the end of the year, the Ukrainian army would receive about 500,000 units of 155 mm ammunition.
At the same time, the prime minister assured that in parallel, the Czech Republic is already supplying hundreds of thousands of large-caliber ammunition of other types annually.
Czech ammunition initiative for Ukraine
At the beginning of the year, Czech President Petr Pavel said that Prague had found hundreds of thousands of shells for Ukraine, but the project needed funding. Portugal, Finland, Germany, and Lithuania joined the initiative.
At the end of June, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced the delivery of the first batch of 50,000 rounds of ammunition to Ukraine.
Subsequently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the Czech ammunition was already helping Ukrainian troops, reducing the gap in firepower with Russian troops by more than half.
Recently, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said that Ukraine would receive another 100,000 rounds of ammunition in July and August as part of the Czech initiative.
