Diplomatic adviser to the President of the UAE, Anwar Gargash, said that his country may join US-led international efforts aimed at ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz, according to The Guardian.
Gargash made the statement during an online event organized by the US think tank the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).
He added that the UAE is not currently engaged in active negotiations with Iran, but is closely monitoring the situation in the region.
Security of the Strait of Hormuz
Earlier, US President Donald Trump called on countries that receive oil through the Strait of Hormuz to help unblock it.
The White House has also considered the possibility of deploying US military convoys to protect commercial vessels amid threats from Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s key energy routes, with a significant share of global oil supplies from Persian Gulf countries passing through it. Any disruption to shipping affects global energy prices and market stability.
Trump expressed hope that China, France, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and other countries would send their ships.
At the same time, France, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and China have already refused to participate in the military mission.
