Starmer on likelihood of military confrontation with Russia in Ukraine: The last thing we want

A war with Russia is the last thing Britain wants to see in the event of its troops encountering occupiers on Ukrainian territory, states UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to Sky News.
According to Starmer, he is doing everything possible today to play his role by maintaining regular contact with "all key players." This includes President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and White House head, Donald Trump. The British prime minister noted that he has already spoken with the latter three times since their meeting in Washington last week.
Starmer was also asked about the possibility of an attack on British peacekeepers in Ukraine after a peace agreement is reached. In response, he said, "That's the last thing anybody wants to see."
"The whole point of ensuring that there is a lasting peace and that any deal, if there's a deal to be defended, is to avoid conflict and to ensure that we do have peace... The way to ensure we have peace is to ensure there are guarantees for any deal that is in place, because the surest risk that there will be conflict is if Putin thinks that he can breach any deal that may be arrived at," he added.
Dispute in the White House
On February 28, during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the White House, a dispute arose between the Ukrainian leader, White House head Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance. Following this, the US temporarily halted aid to Ukraine.
On March 4, the president of Ukraine stated that Kyiv seeks to initiate a negotiation process to achieve lasting peace. However, as The Wall Street Journal reports, Zelenskyy’s willingness to dialogue may not be enough to restore aid.
Meanwhile, Ukraine and Europe are planning to draft a sustainable peace plan soon. According to the Daily Mail, Zelenskyy, Starmer, and Macron may travel to the US together to present a united front on the peace plan to Trump.
