A meeting of military officials will take place in the UK next week. They will discuss "practical plans" for a possible peace agreement for Ukraine, according to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as quoted by The Guardian.

Starmer made the statement at a press conference following the virtual "coalition of the willing" summit. According to him, the countries agreed to accelerate practical efforts to support a potential peace agreement.

We "had agreed for military planners to convene again in the UK this week to progress practical plans for how our militaries can support Ukraine’s future security," said the UK Prime Minister.

Starmer noted that after the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire was announced, the ball was now in Russia's court, and dictator Vladimir Putin must prove he is serious about peace.

"We will build up Ukraine’s own defences and armed forces, and be ready to deploy as a ‘coalition of the willing’ in the event of a peace deal, to help secure Ukraine on the land, at sea and in the sky," said Starmer.

At the summit, leaders emphasized the need for strong monitoring mechanisms to detect and document any violations of the agreement. The countries agreed to intensify their support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia to convince Putin to come to the negotiating table.

"To deliver this, we will accelerate our military support, tighten our sanctions on Russia’s revenues and continue to explore all lawful routes to ensure that Russia pays for the damage it has done to Ukraine," the UK Prime Minister stated.

"Coalition of the willing" summit

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer initiated an online meeting of the "coalition of the willing" countries. The main goal of this coalition is to ensure peace in Ukraine in the event of a corresponding agreement, which includes the deployment of foreign contingents.

The virtual meeting involved European countries, EU leadership, NATO's Secretary-General, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It was also reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated.

It should be noted that the UK and France are leading Europe's efforts on a peace agreement regarding Ukraine, which will then be presented to US President Donald Trump.
