Spain will continue to assist Ukraine with the training of military personnel and plans to contribute to five coalitions, reports the Minister of Defense of Spain, Margarita Robles.

She points out the complexity of the current situation, as the second anniversary of the Russian invasion is marked, adding that unity and support for Ukraine are now crucial.

The minister praises representatives of specialized multinational coalitions for their effective coordination in supporting Ukraine in the long term.

Spain plans to contribute to the following coalitions:

  • Maritime security
  • Field artillery
  • Ground-based air defense
  • Information technology
  • Demining coalitions

Other assistance from Spain

She mentions that Spain will continue to actively engage in training, with over 3,500 Ukrainian soldiers having already undergone training in the country. She announces new specialized training modules for anti-aircraft systems such as Patriot, NASAMS, and Hawk, as well as for underwater demining.

As part of humanitarian support, the minister confirms the successful initiation of a program to accommodate 400 relatives of Ukrainian soldiers who died in combat in military residences, providing them with a place to rest away from the horrors of war.

Spain's support for Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jose Manuel Albares, expressed strong support from Spain for the defense of peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also praised Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez for his significant assistance to Ukraine.

In January, it was reported that Spain adapted armored medical emergency vehicles and decided to donate them to Ukraine as aid.
