South Korea is dismantling loudspeakers used to broadcast propaganda messages along the border with North Korea, Yonhap reports.

This step is part of practical measures aimed at reducing tensions in inter-Korean relations. At the same time, Seoul emphasizes that such actions will not affect the combat readiness of the armed forces.

The decision to stop the broadcasts was made in June on the initiative of President Lee Jae-myung. He called for an end to information pressure on the DPRK to create conditions for dialogue and establish mutual trust between the parties.

On April 8, the North Korean military violated the border of South Korea and opened warning fire. Seoul said that about 10 DPRK soldiers violated the demarcation line.

In January, the South Korean Ministry of Defense rejected accusations that the suspension of the inter-Korean military agreement and the resumption of propaganda through loudspeakers on the border with the DPRK were intended to encourage Pyongyang to provoke on the eve of the president's imposition of martial law in December.
