South Korea responds to rumors about possible ammo supply to Ukraine amid media reports
Rumors in the media that South Korea was considering sending artillery shells to Ukraine are false, according to Newsis and Dong-A Ilbo.
What the media wrote
According to the Dong-A Ilbo, an unnamed government official said that Ukraine had repeatedly asked Seoul to provide 155-mm artillery shells.
Another source noted that the National Security Council had to make the relevant decision. How to make the supply - directly or through the United States - also has to be resolved.
Seoul's reaction
Newsis says an unnamed senior official from the South Korean President's Office has already denied such rumors.
“There are several calibers of artillery shells, including 105 mm and 155 mm, and Ukraine has never asked us for artillery support. It is incorrect to say that we are now discussing the supply of 155mm artillery shells to Ukraine directly,” he said.
South Korea may start supplying weapons to Ukraine
In early October, it became known that North Korea sent its soldiers to Russia for the war against Ukraine.
Against this backdrop, South Korea began to consider changing its position on providing military aid to Ukraine. President Yoon Suk Yeol assured that if the DPRK sends special forces to war, his country will provide consistent support to Ukraine.
