South Korea responds sharply to North Korea's threats
North Korea threatened a “horrible disaster” over the alleged flight of South Korean drones over its capital. South Korea responded sharply, according to Yonhap News Agency.
North Korea claimed recently that South Korean drones had allegedly been spotted over Pyongyang three times in a month. In response, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Yo Jong began to threaten a terrible catastrophe for the neighboring country.
“That time is not set by us. The moment that a drone of the ROK is discovered in the sky over our capital city once again will certainly lead to a horrible disaster,” Kim Yo Jong said.
The South Korean Ministry of Defense responded to this statement, saying Kim Yo Jong's remarks “reflect the North's hypocritical behavior”, which continues with its provocations.
“We clearly warn that if North Korea inflicts harm on the safety of our people, that day will be the end of the North Korean regime,” the South Korean Defense Ministry added.
On the same day, North Korea said it had again thrown garbage-filled balloons across the border into South Korea as a countermeasure.
Conflict between South and North Korea
The conflict between the two countries has been going on for many years, in part due to the DPRK's aggressive policies and rhetoric.
Tensions have escalated in recent months as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has stepped up weapons tests and threats. South Korea responded by stepping up joint military exercises with the United States.
On Wednesday, October 9, the DPRK announced that it would allegedly permanently block its border with South Korea and build defenses to cope with the forces of South Korea and the United States.
On October 11, the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that South Korean drones were allegedly spotted three times over Pyongyang - on October 3, 9, and 10. The DPRK claims that the drones were allegedly scattering propaganda leaflets.
