Slovenia is joining the PURL initiative, under which NATO countries allocate funds to purchase American weapons to aid Ukraine, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob announced this at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

"I cannot disclose the amount because it is classified, and I currently do not have the authority to declassify it. However, it is included in the Ministry of Defense’s 2025 budget, so it does not represent additional spending," the Slovenian prime minister said.

He noted that this aid package is focused solely on defensive weapons, specifically air defense systems, to protect Ukrainian energy facilities from Russian attacks.

Golob also emphasized that Slovenia has been providing Ukraine with defensive weapons for quite some time.

PURL initiative

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that, as of October 13, six countries have allocated funds to purchase American weapons for Ukraine under the PURL initiative.

At the same time, he said that another seven countries intend to join in providing aid to Ukraine through PURL.

Sybiha noted that practical steps could be discussed at an upcoming Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting.

Incidentally, on September 18, a NATO representative told RBC-Ukraine that the first weapons under PURL had already arrived in Ukraine.
