Slovakia to provide winter humanitarian aid to Ukraine
Slovakia has adopted a decision to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine to help survive the winter. The total amount of assistance will be 203,492 euros, according to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Slovakia.
"Based on Ukraine's request for humanitarian aid and the European Commission's call to member states to show solidarity with the civilian population affected by the armed conflict, the Slovak Republic will provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine in the total amount of 203,492 euros," the statement said.
The humanitarian aid, weighing 21 tons, will include electric generators, heaters, clothing, and first aid kits from the reserves of the Ecumenical Pastoral Service Staff in the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic and the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic.
It will also consist of food products, bottled water, and clothing from the reserves of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
The recipients of the aid will be the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the regional enterprise Donetskteplokomunenergo, and the city council of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.
Slovakia's position on the war in Ukraine
The former right-center government of Slovakia strongly supported Ukraine and supplied military equipment, including combat vehicles, as well as S-300 air defense systems and MiG-29 aircraft.
On October 25, the leader of the Smer-SD party, Robert Fico, officially became the new prime minister of Slovakia. He stated that Bratislava would not support providing military aid to Ukraine to counter Russian aggression.
The prime minister also believes that the war is a "frozen conflict" that supposedly cannot be resolved by sending weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
